Newborn Photos with Mom
Newborn photos with Mom may be my favorite thing to photograph. For the longest time, 12 years in fact, I have had this idea to do a very dramatic black and white photoshoot with just Mom and her newborn baby.
The idea came to me after I handed my sister my camera and told her to snap a photo of me and my nephew. I was standing right by his bedroom window and had one hand on his butt and the other hand on his head, and my fingers through his hair with his cheek against mine. It was a small room with just that one small window. The light was very directional and left dramatic shadows to curve around us.
It is one of my all time favorite photos. It’s full of such raw emotion and beauty. This was my first time meeting my nephew. You could see on my face how in love I was with him. I loved the feel of his small body curled up so close to me. I loved the smell and feel of his newborn hair so close to my cheek.
It was a moment I will never forget and what inspired me to recreate this moment for others.
It’s a feeling, an experience, and they are fleeting. Believe me as a mom of three I know this to be true! But when you look at those images all of those feelings can come flooding back. And sadly it’s not a moment that gets captured enough for mothers.
As of right now I am focusing on Mother’s and newborns but may be open to extending this to older babies as well. I can picture the wide eyes and chubby roles now! Let me know what you think, would you want to capture these moments?
